High-street banks need to change the way they handle mortgage-lending for the self-employed, according to a survey by specialist lender Together, in association with First Voice
The research found 78 per cent of self-employed people believe the way banks classify risk needs to change, and 79 per cent think the application process is more difficult than for those in employment.
The survey also found that 19 per cent believe they would have to return to full-time employment as a result.
Those who took part in the research were entered into a draw to win an Apple iPad. Dennis Hush of Ideal Carpets in Berwick-upon-Tweed was the winner.
