The FSB was delighted to team up with a local college to create a highly-successful event about the importance of apprenticeships to small businesses.
Our Weston-super-Mare branch partnered with Weston College to stage the ‘apprenticeship expo’ at the iconic Winter Gardens in Weston and a large and enthusiastic audience turned up to hear about why SMEs should consider going down the route of taking on apprentices.
The findings in the FSB’s 2016 report on the subject – ‘Make or Break’ available here – was much discussed during the half-day seminar and our Weston FSB chairman Dave Mountford sat on a panel of business owners to talk about his experience of apprenticeships.
He is pictured above telling delegates that our report revealed that while one in four of our members surveyed already had apprentices, a further 25 per cent said they would consider doing so if the conditions and support were right.
The meeting was designed to address what some of those issues holding SMEs back from taking on apprentices may be and our contributions to the debate were greatly appreciated.
The college have told us were delighted to have us as their primary partners of the expo and have already said they would like to stage another similar event early next year with the FSB alongside them.
We will give more details when they are available.
