When you think of a Woman Who… you generally think about a strong, decisive individual who has made it in the world of business. However, you may be one of many reading this who instantly thinks “That’s not me!”
Woman Who…founded by FSB Member, Sandra Garlick, is all about inspiring women in business to recognise their achievements by running quality events, providing inclusive networking events supporting the process of entering Awards and helping to create opportunities in business.
Following huge success in neighbouring Coventry and Warwickshire, Sandra is now working in partnership with the FSB in the Leicestershire, Northamptonshire & Rutland region and is looking to run events, networking and awards encompassing the three counties.
We recently conducted a detailed study of our members called ‘Women in Enterprise: The Untapped Potential’, which explores the specific challenges faced by women-led businesses. The report finds issues which were more acute for women business owners such as balancing work and family life, achieving credibility for the business and a lack of confidence. The report’s recommendations included more networking and mentoring opportunities.
Regional Chair Les Phillimore says “we hope that through this partnership we can address some of the issues which our survey highlighted, and that we can support not just our members but the wider local business communities in our region, with new opportunities to get together and support one another. Men will of course be welcome at all of these events, which aim to improve inclusivity and diversity all-round.
Sandra is looking for members to share their views and ideas on ‘women in business’ in our large and diverse region. Could you get involved? Suggest an opportunity, speaker or venue? Share your story with us?
